2011 chevrolet impala review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Value and fuel efficiency in a big family sedan. introductionthe chevrolet impala is a big family sedan close in size to the toyota avalon. The impala is a comfortable and convenient car, practical and enjoyable to drive, with decent performance and fuel economy and competitive pricing. the impala competes with full-size cars, such as the ford taurus, chrysler 300 and dodge charger, and mid-size cars, such as the honda accord, toyota camry and nissan altima. impala carries over to 2011 largely unchanged, though there are some minor packaging changes. 2011 chevrolet impala models are available with bluetooth and the latest version of onstar gen 9. 0. All 2011 impalas come with body-color body side moldings. the chevrolet impala is front-wheel drive with a choice of two v6 engines. The 3. 5-liter v6 that comes standard on the impala lt and ls models generates 211 horsepower and 216 pound-feet of torque and gets an epa-estimated 18/29 miles per gallon city/highway. The impala ltz comes with a larger 3. 9-liter v6 rated at 230 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque and 17/27 mpg. for 2011, both the 3. 5-liter v6 and the 3. 9-liter v6 are flexfuel-capable, meaning they can run on e85 ethanol. Fuel economy drops precipitously with e85, however, tumbling 7 miles per gallon in both cases to 14/22 mpg for the 3. 5-liter and 13/20 mpg for the 3. 9-liter. on the road, the impala is very stable, a nice cruiser. There's lots of low-end torque from the 3. 9-liter v6. Step on the gas and it goes. Given its size, the impala handles well, and surprisingly so. inside, there's lots of room, in the front as well as the back seats, and getting in and out is easy. The impala has a big trunk with a big lid that simplifies loading cargo, and it has a generous capacity. Optional flip-and-fold-forward rear seats are exclusive in its class, and provide not only holding wells for groceries but a flat cargo floor that expands the trunk for long items. Last redesigned for 2006, the impala looks a bit long in the tooth. chevrolet impala comes standard with stabilitrak electronic stability control with traction control, and the latest generation of onstar. Options include an engine block heater 75), 40/20/40 front bench seat 195), and a flip-and-fold-forward rear seat 295). impala lt 25,605) upgrades to 16-inch aluminum wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, bluetooth and more interior conveniences. Standard wheels are 18-inch machined alloys with p235/55r18 tires. safety features that come standard on all impalas include dual front airbags, side-curtain roof-mounted airbags for front- and rear-seat passengers, thorax side-impact airbags, anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), stabilitrak with traction control and tire-pressure monitoring. walkaroundthe impala presents a clean, neat, pleasing design. It's an attractive car. Last redesigned for the 2006 model year, it is aging, however. the big headlamps have a jeweled appearance with three independent lighting units and are smoothly integrated into the front end. Flat-blade windshield wipers provide consistent pressure on the glass, which helps eliminate streaking and wind noise. Build quality is good, with tight gaps of 3. 5mm or less between body panels. aside from minor badging, the only exterior differentiations among the trim levels are the wheels and the standard rear spoiler on the ltz. interiorinside is a roomy cabin. The seats have fairly firm cushions and decent lumbar support compared to previous models. A twin-brow instrument panel wraps around into the doors. We found the instrument panel pleasing to the eye, colorful, entertaining and easy to use, with a nice all-of-a-piece unity and style to it. Interior materials are a grade above average. the dual-zone climate control system is a snap to use, with large, round control knobs and good markings. It can support up to a 12-degree temperature difference side-to-side. The optional remote engine start system comes with a 200-foot operating range and automatic climate pre-conditioning to warm or cool the interior. The glovebox is large enough to actually hold stuff. the base audio system comes with six speakers, am/fm/cd/mp3 capability, and xm satellite radio. It features speed-sensing volume control and a two-line, 32-character display and the capability to select freely between am, fm and xm. Setting these presets is as easy as holding the button down. A big round knob in the center allows quick volume adjustments. Too many radios nowadays are too complex or have tiny buttons difficult to operate underway. Not so with gm's radios. The impala sound system is sophisticated yet easy to operate. The optional system adds an in-dash six-cd changer. The premium audio system is bose. Turn-by-turn navigation directs the driver through the route by using the digital readout lines in the radio head. Directions are downloaded by the onstar advisor to the vehicle and can be played back or paused anywhere from start to destination. Besides being easy to use (all directions are downloaded to the car by an advisor) turn-by-turn is less expensive than a gps navigation system. the back seat is roomy and comfortable for two adults or three kids, but not three adults. The forward-flipping rear seat cushions reveal a storage tub underneath that can contain spills or transport a variety of items. The tub also serves as a covered storage area beneath the seat with cushions down, and exposes convenient grocery bag hooks when the cushions are flipped forward. They feature variable valve timing, which changes the orientation of the camshaft, automatically adjusting the timing of the intake and exhaust valves for better performance, economy, and emissions. the 3. 5-liter e85-compatible v6 that's standard on the ls and lt has variable valve timing and generates 207 horsepower and 215 pound-feet of torque. It gets an epa-rated 18/29 mpg city/highway on gasoline and 14/22 city/highway on e85 ethanol. the 3. 9-liter e85-compatible v6 has variable valve timing and produces 230 horsepower and 238 pound-feet of torque. The rear suspension uses a multi-link setup with gas-charged struts, coil springs, and a stabilizer bar. Ls and lt models come with the softer fe1 suspension, while the ltz has the performance-tuned fe3 setup and more responsive handling.

2009 chevrolet malibu review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Gm's accord and camry fighter is up to the task. introductionthe chevrolet malibu is a superb midsize sedan. It strikes a nice balance between well-controlled handling and a smooth ride. Overall, the new malibu feels smooth and is pleasant to drive. the cabin is nicely designed, attractive, and everything is easy to operate, though there are some hard plastics that detract from an otherwise first-rate interior. The seats are comfortable, with plenty of front seat room and a generous rear seat. in short, we think the chevy malibu stands up well when held against the toyota camry and honda accord gold standards. Choosing among them largely comes down to nitpicking, splitting hairs and personal preference. Camry and accord may have an edge on resale value, but they're also likely to come with higher price tags. In any case, we don't see the gap between this chevrolet and the imports that we used to see. the 2009 malibu gets some new equipment. Stabilitrak electronic stability control is standard on all 2009 models. The base model also comes with electric power steering, to save drag on the engine, while the v6-powered models come with hydraulic power steering. The malibu makes good use of its space. Despite the longer wheelbase, the car is only three inches longer than the 2007 model, giving it an attractive wheels-at-the-corners look. the malibu looks masculine, brawny, yet clean and crisp. The bodysides are completely clean and uncluttered, and the twin round taillamps pay homage to the corvette. The dual-port grille is a contemporary chevrolet design cue. We think it works better on the silverado, but it gives the malibu a distinctive look, and distinction is the goal of the midsize sedan designer. Everything within arm's reach and easy to operate. This design is brought into the 21st century with wood and metallic trim and a very pleasing blue-on-white instrumentation graphic treatment that's flooded with blue light at night. less noticeable are thoughtful features such as ambient lighting. A feature associated with expensive luxury cars recently popularized by mercedes and bmw, ambient lighting helps the driver and front passenger find secondary controls and items around the center console. A cubby on top of the dash is convenient for wallets and such, a useful feature subaru has used for years. cloth, faux-suede and leather interior options are available. The standard interiors are monotone, but several two-tone interior combinations are available, including a dramatic black-and-saddle leather combination that's very attractive. we found the leather seats in the ltz quite comfortable. Piping in a contrasting tone dresses them up. The front bucket seats are somewhere between sumptuous and luscious in the way they look and the way they sit, very comfortable and supportive. the stretch in wheelbase affords each occupant plenty of room, and there is ample headroom and legroom in the rear compartment for six-foot-plus passengers. The backs of the front seats are dished out to add knee room. The rear seatbacks flip down to provide a pass-through to the trunk. While that trunk has 15. 1 cubic feet of cargo volume, the rear pillars are pushed to the far back of the car, creating a small trunk opening that won't accept large boxes. the cabin includes a dashtop storage bin, door cubbies, and seatback pockets, plus standard ambient lighting for the overhead console and door-pull pockets. We've never cared for the look of rolled-up sliding covers on center consoles due to their ability to attract crumbs. overall, the malibu interior is attractive and comfortable. The quality of the interior materials is good. We think the malibu's interior compares well to the cabin of the honda accord. In fact, it may be more attractive, though the quality of the material on the steering wheel hub and the hard plastic on the lower dash aren't as nice. However, the chevrolet has an attractive leather shift boot when the leather upholstery is chosen, and the accord can't make that claim. every malibu comes with xm satellite radio and the latest version of onstar with turn-by-turn navigation. However, there's no gps navigation system, nor is there a back-up camera. Chevrolet says people prefer to use their portable gps units and relatively few want to pay for an oem navigation system, but we're a little skeptical of that claim. big knobs and buttons and an elegant design make operating the audio and climate functions easy. In fact, we found it easier and less confusing to make adjustments in the malibu than in a comparably equipped (non-navi) honda accord; the honda seems less intuitive and convenient. Unlike the honda, the chevrolet has the audio controls at the top, better because people tend to fiddle with their stereos more than their temperature controls. the climate controls in the malibu are very easy to operate utilizing big knobs for fan and vent modes and simple, clearly labeled buttons. Honda splits the climate controls up, forcing the driver to examine them more closely before pressing a button. Window switches are conveniently mounted on the doors. Redundant audio controls on the steering wheel are availa.
